Short notice, yes, but I’ve been in a bit on an art rut. Hopefully this will be my anti-rut.

The comic’s title is “Terminus”. It’s going to be a lot different from my usual random scribbles. I’m planning to have a serious plot, but if there’s a chance to throw in an occasional joke, hey, all the better.

I’ll start off attempting a weekly schedule, maybe an occasional extra now and then if I get a routine going.

P.S. Apololgies for the generic comicpress layout, I’ll attempt to slap on some basic CSS magic soon.

P.P.S. Don’t trust the iPhone WordPress app, the “Local Drafts” feature has a bug that will discard your precious posts :(

I’ve had a couple of weeks to get to know my new MacBook Pro (15-inch: 2.8GHz) , and it’s a much nicer piece of hardware compared to every standard notebook/laptop I’ve seen before. It’s light and sleek, but more importantly, the battery actually lasts a decent amount of time. So far I’ve mostly been using it to watch videos and DVDs on the train :) Here’s a couple of things I like so far about OS X:

  • Spotlight – With a quick keyboard shortcut (Cmd+Space) I can launch apps by typing the first few letters of their name. I’m sure there’s similar things on other OSes but I like that this is built in and zero-config.
  • Applications/Installations – Most apps (apart from chunky stuff like CS3) are installed by just dropping them in “/Applications”. It’s a refreshing change. The lack of a registry is also nice. Sure, there’s files that occasionally need hunting, but it’s less of a hedge maze.
  • Icons – Icons are waaaay easier to apply to folders and apps, since apps are actually folders in disguise. Especially with Img2icns.
  • Scripting – AppleScript and other Unix-based scripting make it really easy to automate stuff, especially for a programmer like me. Seriously, AppleScript is underrated as a quick and dirty automation tool.
  • Eye Candy – Haughty people might say they don’t need frivolous things like eye candy, but damnit, we spend our lives in front of these things, so it might as well look decent, instead of the hodge-podge of visual effects that windows has. And the focus on ‘eye candy’ has also streamlined a lot of usability situations. On the whole OS X has a sort of smooth feel to it, which is sometimes very comforting :)

Last night / this morning, I woke up with a dream still fresh in my head. It was different from the usual in that it had a fairly consistent theme and was pretty interesting.

In this dream I had been turned into a giant hornet-type creature. It must have started in a lab, because there was a breakout and I found myself escaping with a whole colony of other hornet creatures. Most if not all were of the geniune wild variety, but since I looked exactly like them I wasn’t going to start behaving out of the ordinary, and so I joined the crowd as they started travelling.

We were treking on foot along a path, one followed by what appeared to be a pipeline of some variety. Perhaps it was related to that lab? It didn’t seem odd to me at the time that giant insects were walking and not flying, but in retrospect I assume they were keeping a low profile from the humans (or humanoids? I remember a anthropomorphic bunny in a lab coat…).

Bleh I guess I’m not much for “content” or what have you. Well, I’ve been itching to spruce up this website with a more stable layout, which I’m very slowly working on. If I get enough free time, maybe some art doodles as well :)

I’m going to have to declare “blog bankruptcy” or something similar, just thinking about all those old blog posts and my whiny rants were keeping me away from this place. I’m fairly certain those old posts aren’t a great loss to society anyway. Now that I’ve started using twitter more I can use that for all the minutia about my life.

Now the only thing left to do is figure out what I should DO with this place. I’m thinking maybe start a comic, possibly a user-driven MSPA-style one like I’ve been reading in the forums…
